I came across that article concluding week and did everything it says. Today lo and behold it wants to offer corrections in US English.
This has acquired me so much grief over the years. I want to remove U.s.a. English from my computer in total and forever. I have zilch doubt that I am not the only person in this state of affairs. It's unbelievable that Microsoft doesn't become this.

What language do you want to use as the default proofing linguistic communication in Word? Is that linguistic communication gear up equally the display linguistic communication in Windows ten? The connection between the proofing language in Office and the display language in Windows is far from obvious, but I know from experience that it exists.
Likewise, is the option to "Detect language automatically" turned off in the Language dialog box (Review > Language > Set Proofing Language)?
I want to use English, not American English. I have to remove American English from the computer completely. It keeps coming back and makes me look so unprofessional.

Have you managed to correctly gear up the default linguistic communication for new, blank documents?
Note that for whatsoever certificate where the language formatting has get wrong, you will have to (re-)apply the right language to text. This must exist done for each afflicted document (considering language is a text property in Word). Select all and choose the language you want in the Linguistic communication dialog box (Review > Language > Set Proofing Language).
As long as you turn off the "Detect linguistic communication automatically" option, you won't meet the language changing in future documents that y'all create.
Of course, if y'all receive documents from other people or paste content from the net, the linguistic communication formatting applied by other people will be preserved when y'all open those documents. With regards to pasting, it will be safer to paste in apparently text format.

Thanks StefanBlom. That option of receiving documents from other people or paste content is all the more reason to remove US English from the computer.
So far today my document (assault NZ English tempate) hasn't turned to United states of america. But quite often during the day they do.
Now of course Outlook 365 has managed to turn off the spell checking and I have to get through all the steps to try to work on why now. Information technology seems to me that Microsoft has a number of bones bug to bargain with, with 365. It also needs to consider users who don't desire US English sullying their computers.
Thank you

OK. At present I'thousand having problems with Outlook 365 every bit well.
No matter how many times I go into "Language" and uncheck the box "Do non bank check spelling or grammer" and click OK, it reverts back to checking that box. This is driving me bonkers. I'm sure it's all part of the same thing.
No affair how many times I go into "Linguistic communication" and uncheck the box "Practice non check spelling or grammar" and click OK, information technology reverts dorsum to checking that box. This is driving me bonkers. I'k sure it'due south all role of the same thing
That option applies to text ranges, not to the certificate as a whole. Run across if the option has been activated for the Normal style.

Thanks. I've simply done that on your communication. Permit's see how it goes.
How on earth I get the Outlook spell checker non to start and stop and change languages I dont know.
In all the years I've been using Microsoft Word (I got my first copy at a press event the 24-hour interval Windows 95 launched and have used information technology ever since) I have never e'er had a single problem with the spell check, other than this stupid practice of forcing users to accept US English on their computers. (That has caused no stop of grief to me over the years and Microsoft should really have sorted it past at present. I often see posts past people who want U.s. English removed. Information technology should only be a choice.

You lot tin check the settings of the Normal mode in Outlook also.
Note that if the language is changing at the insertion point, during typing, then you should ensure that "Discover language automatically" is turned off, both in Word and in Outlook. This option does apply to the program every bit a whole.

Yes, it is part of the same affair. As my article points out, this is a character formatting type of outcome, except that the proofing linguistic communication is invisible.

I take tried your solution, but it all the same reverts back to American English.
Microsoft actually demand to rectify this as this has been a problem for years which I know has frustrated myself and many others.
Every single time I type a word doc, I have to continually change it to English Commonwealth of australia non but at the commencement of the medico, only throughout. Wastes sooooo much time!!
@Microsoft - a solution please??

Here's an actual solution.
Discover ExcludeDictionaryEN0809.lex. This should be located (depending on windows/role version) in C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\UProof
Basically the exception list file for that language.
Then go to http://www.tysto.com/uk-us-spelling-list.html or a better source. Re-create paste the total list into, say, Excel to split up it into 2 columns.
Select the American English column and re-create that into your favourite text editor. Strip off any leftover tabs or control characters remaining. Now paste that list into ExcludeDictionaryEN0809.lex
You lot now have a listing of words to recognise as wrong English. Notation that this solution won't correctly advise to replace "airplane" with plane, just it volition at to the lowest degree mark information technology as a mistake. I recollect achieving this once just I don't think how. The autocorrect file exists somewhere and I retrieve is used for suggestions.
Your Custom.DIC file is likewise in the same location if created, and you can override Part'due south hard coded notion that information technology shouldn't suggest misspelled swear words by simply adding them here.
This works fairly well as instead of trying to fight the system that will reinstall Us English language at every turn, we add a customised exception listing to thwart it in real-fourth dimension.
I hope this helps.
